Texas Council on Family Violence Partners with the Texas Bar Foundation to Help Educate the Judiciary

Texas Bar Foundation Awards Grant to TCFV

Austin, Texas – The Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) today announced the launch of a new statewide partnership with the Texas Bar Foundation to work with the judiciary across the State to ensure they have the latest information and updates on new laws passed by the Texas legislature.

TCFV’s Fourth Annual Judicial Summit on Family Violence kicks off today in Austin and will bring judicial leaders from across Texas, along with statewide and national experts to convene to address relevant, emerging topics and best practices involving family violence in the courtroom. This unique opportunity for peer dialog provides valuable resources and a forum for participants to share challenges and successes in providing leadership in the courtroom and the community to increase offender accountability and maximize victim safety. ??

“The legal system imposes significant barriers for survivors of family violence,” said Gloria A. Terry, TCFV’s president. “The judiciary bears the burden and privilege in accomplishing justice in family violence response. We join with the Bar Foundation to offer information on the new legislation passed this legislative session to protect victims of family violence and to work with the judiciary to help provide leadership to maximize safety for victims of domestic violence.”

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $14 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably funded bar foundation.
