AUSTIN — Executive Partner of the Austin office, Kimberly A. Yelkin, and a team of lawyers at Gardere’s Government Affairs Practice are ranked among the top-grossing lawyer-lobbyists in Texas by Texas Lawyer, a highly respected publication for lawyers in the state.
Gardere represented 36 clients during the 81st Legislative Session that recently concluded, reporting 2009 compensation to the Texas Ethics Commission ranging from nearly $1 million to more than $3.4 million.
Gardere broadened its base of clients in 2009 to include new clients from a variety of different industries. “The Gardere lobby team achieved results by advancing legislation that our clients, members of the Texas Legislature and state regulators all agreed were meaningful and desirable changes in the law,” says Yelkin. “Our team of lawyers recognizes that there are different approaches used at the legislature. We believe it is important to educate all stakeholders in the debate and to sometimes just let the process work to achieve the best long-term results for your clients.”
“Advocating for our clients’ interests before lawmakers is a responsibility we take seriously,“ says Gardere Managing Partner Steve Good. “We’re honored that our hard work in this area has been recognized.”
Gardere’s Government Affairs Practice Group is recognized as one of the best and most experienced lobby and legal teams in Texas. Attorneys Mark Vane, David Weber, Nanette Beaird, Dewey A. Brackin, and consultant A.W. (Woody) Pogue join Yelkin in the lobbying efforts. The attorneys in this team specialize in legislative, economic development, food & beverage, government contracts, insurance regulation, litigation and litigation avoidance matters. The attorneys in the Austin office have worked both inside and outside government and have extensive experience managing major state agencies, holding top litigation, legislative and public policy positions.
Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm celebrating 100 years in 2009 and one of the Southwest’s largest full-service law firms, has offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston and Mexico City.
