Coalition of Shelters Are Assuring Victims They Will Get the Help They Need
Houston, Texas — As we head into the Holiday season, most Texas families will be enjoying family, friends and gifts. For others, this time of year may bring stress and difficulty, particularly if they are living in a home where there is violence or sexual abuse.
The New Horizon Family Center, a domestic violence shelter in Baytown, permanently closed on December 5, 2012. Today, domestic violence and sexual assault shelters serving Harris, Chambers and Liberty Counties are working together as a group to protect victims of domestic violence and sexual assault who have been displaced or need services previously provided by the shelter.
“We are all working together as a team, and will continue to do so, to make sure everyone in our area is safe over the holidays and in the New Year. I want to thank the Texas Council on Family Violence and the Executive Directors in the area for working together and providing leadership to ensure that all victims of domestic violence and sexual assault will have continuous access to services and safety, “ said David Mohlman, Executive Director of the United Way of Baytown Area.
The Houston Area Women’s Center, The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Bay Area Turning Point, FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center in Humble along with guidance from the Texas Council on Family Violence have organized to ensure women, children and men in crisis’ in Baytown have access to services.
“As Executive Directors of the surrounding shelters in Harris, Chambers and Liberty counties, we want to assure our law enforcement officers, district attorneys, members of our communities and the public that the surrounding shelters in the community have organized together as a group and have taken action to ensure that every victim of domestic violence & sexual assault who needs our assistance in the Houston area will get the help they need and deserve,” said Deborah Moseley, Executive Director of the Bridge Over Troubled Waters and Area Director for the Texas Council on Family Violence Board for the Houston region.
